Geke Lensink 1963, lives and works in Amsterdam

Education
ArtEZ, Institute of the Arts 1982-1988
Department of Architectural Design.

Summary
Geke Lensink studied at ArtEZ Institute of the Arts. Since then she has always worked as an independent designer of exhibitions, stands and interiors fulfilling assignments for various clients. In 2008 Geke began designing and developing her own collection of furniture and tableware using the title Forward to Basic. Besides this she has designed the TM collection and the ‘Pepper’ together with Jesse Visser. All of these products were on exhibition at the Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven, Designhuis in Eindhoven, Gallerie Vivid in Rotterdam, Salone del Mobile in Milan and other exhibitions.

Forward to Basic
"It is incredibly interesting using today's knowledge to start at the beginning again rather than continuing to evolve."

In 2008, driven by the thought that our world is getting more complicated, designer Geke Lensink began a new collection of products using her own interpretation of the subject. Using the name Forward to Basic she began a search for the archetypical worth’s of a product and the development from the source. “My first thought was; Back to Basic, but I have outgrown that naivety. I studied to become a designer and live in the Western world. What I can do, with all of my knowledge, is to study a product again. To me, this is not a step back but a step forwards; Forward to Basic’’. The 50K Tablecloth is the first result of the Forward to Basic way of thinking. “Ï searched for the archetypical values of a table. What are the value, function and atmosphere of a table?” asks Lensink

The production has an enormous influence on the design. It determines the quality of design and the value of the product. Also, by simplifying the production process, Geke Lensink has found the originality in the design again.

The presentation consists of a group of products where new ideas and traditional processes, high tech and (s)low tech are combined. The collection Forward to Basic consists of various furniture and porcelain tableware.
